Powering PSI Ethiopia: The Journey of PSI Ethiopia’s Visual Storyteller Kaleb Belete
PSI Ethiopia is an International NGO working in multiple health areas. Graphic design and visual storytelling play a significant role in communicating the impact of the programs and projects implemented by PSI Ethiopia. For the past 12 years, Kaleb Belete has held the helm of Creative Design and Production Lead.
Kaleb Belete, one of the longest-serving staff members of PSI, graduated from Addis Ababa College School of Fine Arts and worked in various capacities before joining PSI. He worked as a lecturer in graphic design and painting, contributing to the advancement of the design field in Ethiopia. He also participated in the development of brand logos and creatives for several organizations.
“I am happy to see that the understanding of the value of visual communication and graphic design in Ethiopia has evolved over the past decade,” says Kaleb Belete, an experienced visual artist and graphic designer currently leading the PSI Ethiopia design team.
“When I joined PSI Ethiopia in July 2010, we were behind global standards in the use of creative design and visual communication. I made a commitment to change that and position PSI Ethiopia as one of the global PSI team’s frontrunners in the brand and visual communications,” recalls Kaleb of his first days at PSI 12 years ago. He adds, “Now I can say we are well positioned in line with the global design trend.”
“I have had the pleasure of meeting many young graphic designers in various international and private organizations that I used to teach. It gives me great pleasure to see that some of my students are now contributing to the growth of graphic design in Ethiopia,” says Kaleb.
Kaleb and his team at PSI Ethiopia regularly work on the design of PSI Ethiopia’s newsletter, design development for numerous events under various programs, office redesign, photo, and video production, and contribute significantly to national events by designing communication materials.
